Two pizza delivery drivers were savagely beaten by a gang after being conned into a 4am delivery.
The pair, aged 33 and 29, were called to the junction of Cadley Avenue and Woodplumpton Road on Sunday to deliver six pizzas.

They were then set upon by a group of up to six youths, thought to be aged between 15 and 20 years, who tried to steal their mobile phones, cash and break into their car.

Det Insp Dave McKenna, of Preston Police, described the attack as "cowardly" and warned takeaway deliverers to beware of similar tricks.

He said: "This was a nasty attack on two hard-working people just trying to do their job in the early hours of the morning.

"They have both had to have hospital treatment and are very shaken up by the incident.

"Takeaway drivers should be especially wary of taking orders from on the street."

He added that the gang had earlier made a call to a takeaway on Friargate which sent a driver round to collect the money for the pizzas, spotted the group and drove off.

The youths then made a second order to a firm on Corporation Street, which sent the drivers.

The group was made up of between five and six males, aged 15 to 20 years and wearing black clothing with some wearing masks or scarves covering their faces.

Anyone with any information should contact Preston Police on 01772 203203.

15 year olds roaming around at 4AM!!! Where were the `couldn`t care less`, parents?

Had any of the gang been injured - the drivers would no doubt be facing charges of assault.

What kind of country are we living in? I despair.

Didn't think these places still delivered at that time. Something odd about this story.

Nothing odd about it, they deliver till about 5am. Real heros arent they with their hoods and masks. They should be publicly flogged.

Set up the stocks on a Saturday afternoon on the Flag Market and put these idiots in.

Thier parents obviously neither know nor care what their "poor misunderstood darlings" arw up to.

Pandemic situation here. I drive the streets at night and see groups like the above described all over Preston and surrounding small towns. Every last one of these groups are likely to do something anti-social during the course of the night. Whether it's just a flick of a finger to passing motorists, or beating some random person close to death, they will at some point be anti-social.

What's the cause of this? Some would say poverty, some would say drugs (including alcohol), and even some would say the violent music/film culture out of America that's been rammed down the throats of our youth for the past 20 years. Think the 'respec' and 'don't dis me' gun glorifying rubbish you see on MTV. I'd say it's a combination of all three plus many other things too complexed for someone as simple as I to understand.

Balders - Call me old fashioned but I find it odd that you can get a pizza delivered to a road junction at 4am in the morning

There is an awfull lot of takeaways in Preston that now deliver and they probably need the buisness so dont ask to many questions whwn an order is placed, it doesnt alter the fact that these faceless morons should face the most severest of punishments. I agree entirely with comment 4, they should be put in stocks on the flag market. I would then like to see them flogged.

Outdoorboy, black cabs take flag downs from non addresses. It should be quite safe to do this, and if the morons were correctly punished then i am sure things would become considerably safer.
