A former Preston police officer is suing Lancashire police, claiming he was discriminated against on racial and disability grounds.
The first day of PC Tabarik Zabier's case was held on Tuesday at Manchester's Employment Tribunal in Alexandra House, The Parsonage, and the case is expected to last up to three weeks.

It is understood the claimant, who is from Blackburn but based at Preston and Fulwood, is expected to be heard for between three to five days and that will be followed by up to 20 Lancashire police officers being called to give evidence, ranging in rank from PCs to chief inspectors.

Rachel Baines, acting chairman of Lancashire Police Federation, said: "From our point of view there are no winners in a tribunal.

"It is very difficult for the claimant and it is very difficult for the people who are called.

"The Federation does not take sides on that. We will help everyone through it."
