Lancashire Evening Post editor Simon Reynolds was on hand to officially open the newly-revamped library at the University of Central Lancashire.
He was joined by Michael Ahern, UCLan's director of learning and information services and Patrick McGhee, deputy vice chancellor (academic) for the ceremony at St Peter's Square.
A total of £650,000 has been invested in refurbishing the library, providing 100 more computers.
Thousands of books have been archived to make room and plasma TV screens showing cultural events from around the world have been placed alongside newspapers in the library's cultural exchange area.
