A police worker has been killed in a horror smash on a major Lancashire road.
David Johnson, 46, was in collision with a silver BMW while he was out on his lunch break.

Mr Johnson was a married father-of-two from Kirkham.

The collision with a saloon car happened on the southbound A59 Longton bypass close to the junction of Drumacre Lane at New Longton at 12.50pm on Thursday.

Lancashire's Chief Constable Steve Finnigan today paid tribute to Mr Johnson who joined the constabulary in 1995.

He said: "David was a totally dedicated family man who adored his wife and children.

"He had worked for the constabulary for 13 years and was known across the force, especially for his contribution to ICT Security.

"He was extremely professional and he will be sadly missed by his friends and colleagues in the constabulary."

Police shut the road between the junction with Chapel Lane and Liverpool Road for a number of hours.

A Lancashire Police spokesman confirmed the pedestrian had "died at the scene" of the accident.

Sgt Alan Baron said: "This tragic incident has sadly resulted in a fatality. I would appeal for anyone who saw the collision or anyone who has any information to get in touch."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Paul Mathers on 01772 614444.

This is so awful - my thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family. Post #1 was reported prior to me logging on. I cannot believe somebody would post an obviously disrespectful comment at such sad circumstances. You moron.

I can't believe that the LEP carries a partial story about such a disaster. what a dis gusting way to report such a horror story. Get the FULL details THEN make the report. Morons.

Its quite possible, for legal reasons, that the LEP has been asked not to report the full story yet, callon. Its not just the LEP who need to know all the facts!!!

Thoughts go out to family and friends in this tragedy.

post #1 was crticising LEP for using the adjective 'horror' as a means to spice up the article. and i agree with her.

What am I missing. I can't see any problems with the report. What part of the report is partial. The use of the word "horror" seems to be a reasonable adjactive to describe what has happened.

Im sure it was "horific" but not a "disaster".

Its good to see the internet is open to all peple in society.

Whether it was a horror smash or not it doesn't help the family of the deceased, which is where our thoughts should be going.
RIP and condolences to the man's family.
