Thrillseekers going to Britain's favourite free tourist attraction will have to pay a £5 admission charge to get in from next year.
The theme park - Lancashire's top tourist attraction - will introduce the charges from 2009.

The move ends more than a century of tradition at the seaside theme park.

Visitors will either have to purchase an unlimited rode wristband or or a £5 Freedom Pass.

Pleasure Beach managing director Amanda Thompson said: "At Pleasure Beach we are always looking to add value to our customers' experiences, the introduction of the Freedom Pass will allow us to do this and ensure that we can continue to improve the overall visitor experience at the park."

what about all the people, parents, grannies, who dont want to go on rides but take their kids for a bit of fun at the pleasure beach? I for one wouldn't pay £5 to just walk round.
This will hit Blackpool hard - all the hoteliers must be fuming

Is that on top of the cost of the ice skating session?
I wandered round a few times last summer and was tempted to have a few rides. This will keep me away!

On the days I visited it wasn't exactly packed either!

so now on top of having to pay best part of 50 quid for my kids to have a wristband while me an my wife supervise it means they want a tenner from us for the privilidge of supervising them. 50 quid or 60 quid lost from this family.

The original Mr thompson will be turning in his grave at this one.

What a RIP-OFF!!! I can no longer go on the rides because of a bad back but I love taking my nephews and Grandson to the Pleasure Beach. To have to pay a fiver just to supervise the kids is just another form of tax. This could be disastrous for the Pleasure Beach rather than generate another income from visitors.Families are hard pressed now to pay for the rides or buy a wrist band. What next?? Taxing the air we breathe whilst visiting this huge attraction.Another fiver I suppose!!

The decision can be summed up in two words....pure greed.

I for one wouldn't pay £5 to walk round the pleasure beach its a rip off, Southport Pleasureland started charging a couple of quid to go in there, and look what happened to that, it shut down,

An old and wise one,

Well this is the first i knew, and what a shock, i have been involved with the B.P.B. for over 20 years and remember, when the gates and fencing went up, Mrs Thompson Senior, said there wouldnt be any charging,They wanted to keep it like her father wanted, a Fairground attraction, But since Mr Thompson has passed away, THE PLACE HAS CERTAINLY GONE DOWN HILL, and the rumours of takeovers will again ,be on the agenda, ,they are loosing customers every year and the security of trying to get into the park by ex KGB workers, has put a lot of people off, as said they tried to be greedy at South port and the samne will happen at Blackpool, GOOD BYE DEAR SITE, MAKE THE MOST OF IT THIS YEAR, i will never pay to get on, and stoped goig to the shows because they were too pricy

A bustling, fairground atmosphere is part and parcel of the Pleasure Beach - with everyone having the freedom of choice to spend or not to spend on the rides and sideshows. The rides are not cheap, and everyone knows that most of the sideshows are a rip-off - but we still try ! The £5 charge will put an end to all that. No more grannies & grandads with the kids in tow, no more family days out - just too expensive - why pay a fiver (or a tenner for Mum & Dad) just to look after the kids ? If this charge is introduced I can see, sadly, the Pleasure Beach getting even seedier than it already is and suffering the same fate as Southport.

Fon memories indeed, but come 2009 - may it R.I.P.
