A pensioner has been given a bravery award for tackling a violent yob.
Kathleen Edwards, 70, was travelling on a bus through Bilsborrow when four youths began to cause problems and were asked to get off.

As they did so one of the youths tried to steal the cash container but he was stopped by the driver who held on to him.

The other members of the group assaulted the driver but plucky Mrs Edwards, from Lancaster, went to his assistance and dragged one of the offenders off the driver as he was lying on the floor.

A grandfather who risked his life to rescue a swimmer from the River Lune has also received a bravery award.

Peadar Broe, 56, from Lancaster, collected the Liverpool Shipwreck Award from the Royal Humane Society for his efforts in rescuing the man who was swimming across the river to get to a pub.

After seeing him in trouble, Mr Broe called for assistance from other people, was fitted with a buoyancy aid and rope, and pulled the man back to the shore. Victim Brian Woodcock, 45, died, despite attempts to resuscitate him.

Well done Kathleen-these cowardly yobs should be named and shamed-how scum like this lot are allowed to walk free in the community is beyond me.One can only hope that they will soon get their just deserves-society would be far better off if they were incarcerated.

It makes one wonder just 'who' we are saving this Planet for ? Perhaps if the young had more respect for the old we'd all care more about going green, recycling and global warming ! Can't help but think 'Why care about the future - let's live for now !'
