District councils in Preston and South Ribble have been reviewing their playground and play area policies over the past few years.
South Ribble has closed more than half of its playgrounds over the past four years and is investing millions of pounds in the remaining 28.

So far eight playgrounds have been refurbished and upgraded and more than £500,000 is being spent on three projects in Higher Walton, Much Hoole and Penwortham Kingsfold this year.

The bulk of the money comes from developers with an extra £100,000 secured through lottery funding for the Kingsfold plan. Cash is also being invested in play areas.
