Published Date: 29 February 2008
A pervert used a hypnotising game to sexually assault two young girls, a court heard.
David Holmes, 69, pretended to hypnotise the victims before kissing and touching them.

He carried out most of the assaults at his then home in New Longton, Preston Crown Court was told.

One victim later told police Holmes "would make us run an
d hypnotise us" in a game he called "ogre."

Holmes, now of St Jude's Avenue, Bamber Bridge, pleaded guilty to a total of 12 offences of sexually assaulting the two girls, the court heard.

When arrested Holmes accepted he had played the game and added he had "gone too far."

Beverley Hackett, defending, said: "He is a broken man, these convictions bring great shame to him. He is at a loss to explain why he behaved in the way he did."

Judge Robert Brown sentenced Holmes to a three-year community order, ordered him to undertake a sex offenders programme and put him on the Sex Offenders' Register for five years.

He must also have no unsupervised contact with any children under 16 and must not allow any child unaccompanied into his home.

I have registered to comment on this story - but not about the perpertrator of this crime who clearly gets what he deserves.

What disturbs me is the very misleading headline. The fact of the matter is that when you read the story it is clear that there was no real hypnosis used. But what does the headline imply?

I am among the huge number of people that have been helped by clinical hypnotherapists and this flippant misrepresentation of how hypnosis can be used is typical of very poorly informed journalists.

I refer you to two very respected leading hypnotherapists who have to explain yet again to their clients why your reporting is so flawed.

I really feel almost as angry as Adam Eason and Ellie Blunt in their blogs:
Adam Eason's blog:
http://www.adam-eason.com/2008/03/04/man-does-not-use-hypnosis-on-girls-at-all-despite-idiotic-newspaper-headlines
Ellie Blun's blog
http://transparenthypnotist.blogspot.com/2008/03/cloud-on-hypnosis.html

These professionally trained hypnotherapists do so much good.

Journalists on the other hand ... ??

Yours
