A man was caught on CCTV stealing 18 jars of coffee from a store.
Peter Vernal, 35, of Garsdale Road, Ribbleton, pleaded guilty to theft from the Late Shop, Longridge, near Preston.

Blackburn magistrates heard the footage was handed to the police but it was four months before he was identified, located and arrested.

He was ordered to pay £41 compensation and £65 costs. Sarah Wilkinson, defending, said Vernal had committed the offence to fund his heroin habit, but his life had moved on since May.

She said he was now on a police supported drugs programme, the Tower Project, and was on a methadone programme.

"There are plans for him to go into rehab in the near future," continued Miss Wilkinson.
