An elderly motorist has been airlifted to hospital following a two-car crash in Lancashire.
The man's Nissan Micra was in collision with a Land Rover Discovery near the junction of the A59 and Pimlico Road in Clitheroe at 12.30pm on Saturday.

The Micra then struck a set of lights at a level crossing.

The man, in his late 70s, was cut free by firefighters and airlifted by the North-west air ambulance to Royal Blackburn Hospital with serious injuries.

His wife, a passenger in the car, was taken by ambulance to the same hospital with minor injuries.

The Land Rover driver was unhurt.

A Network Rail spokesman said there had been no disruption to services because the level crossing is on a private railway line run by manufacturer Castle Cement.
