A 45-year-old Lancashire man has been charged with playing a prank on a police helicopter pilot.
Police have charged Christopher Rhodes, of Highgate, Nelson, with public order offences related to "recklessly acting in a manner likely to endanger an aircraft" and its passengers.

A helicopter, based in Warton, near Preston, was helping officers from Greater Manchester Police chase a car across the county border at around 10.30pm on Thursday when the pilot was left temporarily blinded by a laser.

A senior Lancashire Police officer said the incident could have led to "multiple deaths" had the pilot not taken "evasive action".

Rhodes was due to appear in court on Friday.

How many helicopters does Lancashire Police have? If there's only one, how is it able to hover simultaneously over every housing estate in the county?

Agree tonyjames..

"evasive action" FFS.
I have one of these lazers on my gun (Arnie in Terminator style) and believe me you'd need one hell of a steady hand to keep the 'dot' (at that distance it would be like a football)trained on the pilots eyes.

Eric Cartman, the beam of a lazer doesn't get wider with distance. You could fire one at the moon and it would still be just a dot. But yes, you'd need a very stead hand to keep it trained on a moving target at distance.
