A son desperate to be reconciled with his girlfriend took advantage of his parents going away for the weekend by driving to meet her in their expensive Mercedes.
But Adam Dagnall's brother – thinking the car stolen – called police.
Dagnall, 22, of Dawber's Lane, Euxton, was arrested. It was then discovered he was serving a suspended jail sentence for witness intimidation.
He received a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for assaulting a 50-year-old man, a witness in a hit-and-run incident.
Dagnall admitted breaching the suspended sentence order by taking the car without consent and driving with no licence or insurance.
Judge Edward Slinger at Preston Crown Court gave Dagnall an extra two months on the suspended sentence and 100 hours of unpaid work. He was also fined £215 with £330 costs.
