Two of Lancashire's jails are amongst the most overcrowded in England, it has emerged.
Preston and Lancaster Castle were named in the top 20 published by the Ministry of Justice.

Preston was named as fourth on the list, at 171% over capacity. Lancaster came joint 17th, at 145% overcrowded.

Juliet Lyon, of the Prison Reform Trust, said: "Ministers have grown complacent about jail overcrowding. Massive prison growth will not end of its own accord."

But Prisons Minister David Hanson said: "The figures do not show any prison operating above safe levels."
