Firm due in court
A firm is due at Preston Crown Court tomorrow in connection with a chemical explosion.
Veolia ES Cleanaway is accused of failing to take safe measures to prevent a fire or explosion.
The charges relate to a blaze at Veolia's premises on Red Scar industrial estate in 2007.

Man makes false claims
Dishonestly claiming benefits has cost a 59-year-old man more than £10,000.
Natvarlal Jeram Modasiya, of Lowndes Street, admitted 13 counts of making a false statement to obtain social security benefits.
He failed to tell Preston Council he had savings of more than £40,000.
Preston magistrates fined him £6,890 and told him to pay £750 costs, £2,393 compensation and £15 to a victims' fund.

Driver had no insurance
Having no licence or car insurance cost a Fishwick man £225.
John Paul Pollitt, 46, of Pinfold Street, was convicted by Preston magistrates.
He must pay a £150 fine, £60 costs and £15 to a victims' fund.

Speeder fined
A Woodplumpton speeder has been fined £60 by Preston magistrates.
Carole Mayor, 50, of Whittle Green, admitted the offence on London Road.

Driving with no insurance
A Preston motorist who drove while banned and without insurance has been fined £550.
Paul Halliday, 37, of Harling Road, Fishwick, admitted both offences.
Preston magistrates put six penalty points on his licence and ordered him to pay £45 costs and £15 to a victims' surcharge fund.

Theft from tanning shop
A burglar who stole cash from a tanning shop has been ordered to pay £619 compensation.
Keith Williams, 21, of Marl Hill Crescent, Grange, admitted theft from the Mediterranean Sun Centre.
Preston magistrates put him on a one-year community order and told him to pay £45 costs.

Bound over to keep the peace
Alan Mason, 34, of Manchester Road, Preston, admitted breaching the peace.
Preston magistrates bound him over in the sum of £100 for six months.

Banned van man jailed
A Ribbleton man who drove while disqualified has been jailed for 120 days.
Philip Booth, 29, of Dorman Road, also admitted having no insurance for a Ford Transit van.
Preston magistrates heard he had a record of similar offences.

Not well done
A shoplifter has been put on a six-month community order by Preston magistrates.
David McDermott, 26, of Grimshaw Street, Preston, admitted stealing steak from Marks and Spencer's.

Door attack
A Lostock Hall man who admitted damaging at door at McDonald's has been conditionally discharged. Robert Codlin, 23, of Garden Street, was told to pay £60 costs by Preston magistrates.

Driver given roads ban
A Penwortham motorist who drove without a licence or insurance has been banned from the roads for nine months.
Glenn Wilson, 39, of Sycamore Drive, admitted the offences.
Preston magistrates fined him £250 and told him to pay £35 costs and £15 to a victims' surcharge fund.

Order handed to scent thief
Stealing perfume has landed a Fishwick woman a one-year community order.
Tracey Jamison, 30, of Tennyson Road, admitted theft from Boots when she appeared at Preston Magistrates' court.

Fined for no insurance
A Ribbleton motorist has been fined £220 for driving without insurance.
Russell Armstrong, 34, of Slaidburn Road, admitted the offence.
Preston magistrates told him to pay £35 costs and £15 to a victims' surcharge fund.
Six penalty points were put on his licence.

Driving while using phone
Driving while using a handheld mobile cost a Deepdale woman £233.
Farzana Patel, 31, of St Paul's Road, was also convicted of driving without a licence.Preston magistrates fined her £175 and ordered her to pay £43 costs and £15 to a victims' surcharge fund.

Unpaid work for car offence
A Lostock Hall man has admitted taking a car without consent.
Brendan Nicholas, 20, of Garden Street, admitted the offence.
Preston magistrates ordered him to do 40 hours unpaid work and pay £50 costs.

Driving while disqualified
Jonas Ulys, 48, of Brook Street, Ashton, admitted driving while disqualified.
Preston magistrates tagged him and put him on a 12-week curfew. He must pay £50 costs.

TV theft from supermarket
A shoplifter who stole a TV from a supermarket has been put on a six-month community order.Mark Cairns, 29, of Bidston Street, Fishwick, admitted theft from Sainbury's when he appeared before Preston magistrates.
