The duties of High Sheriffs in Lancashire.
* High Sheriffs in Lancashire have responsibility for upholding law and order.

* Duties include attendance at Royal visits, the wellbeing and protection of Her Majesty's High Court Judges when on Circuit in the county and attending to them during
their legal terms.

* The High Sheriff acts as the Returning Officer For Parliamentary elections in county constituencies.

* Today High Sheriffs work closely with police, probation, local authorities, education and other agencies showing how young people care for their communities.

* A High Sheriff is appointed for one year, except in the event of something happening to the High Sheriff's successor when he or she must remain in office until a successor is appointed.
