Violent crime specialists from the Home Office are talking to Lancashire Police in a bid to tackle the county's emerging gun and gang problems, it has been revealed.
Home Office minister Vernon Croaker revealed Whitehall's specialist violent crime unit was "in discussions" with officers "in relation to their gun and gang problems".

Mr Croaker was responding to a Parliamentary question from Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans who quizzed the Government on what discussions the Home Office had had with police over firearms offences.

Mr Croaker added the discussions included "work with Lancashire Constabulary to review their gangs threat assessment, part of which assesses the threat posed by persons under the age of 18 involved in the use of firearms".

Last month Preston Chief Insp Paul Wilson said the city had around 20 known gangs and there was growing concern.
