Fire crews across Lancashire were called to put out several bonfires over the weekend.
Crews were called to Moor Park, Preston, at 10.20pm on Saturday to put out a bonfire which caused damage to the pavilion on the bowling green.

A spokesman said: "Someone had ripped some of the wooden fascia boards off the roof and set fire to them.

"The police had found it and told us. There was a bit of damage to the window frame and the room inside was full of smoke."

In Penwortham, firefighters were called to an bonfire on land off Flensburg Way at 5.45pm on Saturday.

It had been due to be lit by a farmer at 7pm for Guy Fawkes Night celebrations but had been set alight earlier by someone else.

A spokesman said: "It was unattended and then the farmer turned up. We had started putting it out but then stopped."

On friday, crews went to waste ground just off Manor House Lane, Holme Slack, at around 9.30pm.

A spokesman said: "It was unsupervised and there were lots of youths round there."

Earlier that evening, firefighters from Fulwood station went to Jubilee Park just after 8pm.

In Leyland, a bonfire was put out on Leadale Green, Broadfield Estate, just before 7pm.

And in Lancaster, fire crews were called to a bonfire on the Ridge Estate at around 8pm.

It's past time to outlaw this out dated idiotic display of setting things on fire. Guy fawkes had the right idea, set the parliament ablaze by all means, but there is should end.

why let the minority ruin it for the Majority. This is one night the Dogooders can stay away from. If we had proper punishments in this country we wouldn't be debating this.

A bonfire was built in my street ... by children. It was set alight ... by children. It was attended ... by children. Fireworks were set off ... by children. The kids were really young - certainly not teenagers.

Amazingly, none of them burned to death or blew themselves to bits with explosives. Still, maybe next year, eh?

sam tana that is a horrible thing to say about misguided children. Education is what they need not people who should know better wishing injury and death on those so young. I am sure in the old days these children would be described as little terrors! whats changed to make society behave in such an unforgiving way?
