A motorcyclist who was killed following a smash on the M61 near Chorley has been named as James Mill, aged 40, from Irvine in Ayrshire, Scotland.
The accident happened at junction 9 of the M61 northbound at Clayton Brook at around 9pm on Wednesday.
Emergency services were called to the scene and it is not thought any other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Two lanes on the northbound side of the motorway were closed off and one southbound lane was shut.
