Motorists using a busy Leyland car park got a nasty shock when five cars were clamped in just 15 minutes.
Clampers targeted vehicles parked on the Balfour Court car park next to Barclays Bank.

Michelle Gibson, 41, from Clayton-le-Woods, went into the bank for two minutes to return to find her car clamped.

She had to pay £80 to have the clamp released.

She admits she shouldn't have parked there, but said signs warning motorists it was for private use only were too high.

She said: "As soon as I turned my back, the clamp was on. I'm absolutely furious.

"There are some signs there but, like me, no one is aware of them.
"I saw five cars clamped in 15 minutes because we all missed it. People just don't realise."

Michelle claims the parking officer, from Preston-based National Clamps, was watching the drama unfold from his nearby van.

She said: "One lady could hear the chains from the clamp jangling before she even stepped into the bank.

"It was not until she came out that she realised what had happened. We were absolutely beside ourselves."

Michelle is warning others to be on their guard.

She said: "It's very rare I go into Leyland and it certainly won't encourage me to go again.

"I just want to make everyone aware of what they were doing.

"Not once did the man tell us we couldn't park there or warn us to move."

National Clamps declined to comment.

There is a public car park within 20-30 yards of this private car park with a number of free spaces for up to an hours parking so there is really no reason to park in the private car park except perhaps laziness on the part of the car owner.

I would assume that, like nearly every other human on the planet, that the lady was born with two eyeballs?..also assuming she has good eyesight?...also assuming that her brain function is working to normal peramiters?...common sense...it usually prevails.

"She admits she shouldn't have parked there"

Then she has nothing to whinge about does she. As others state, there is a public car park right alongside with free spaces and another free car park within walking distance that is fully free.

Clampers may be parasites, but stupid people insist on feeding them.

Agree with # 2, 3 and 5.

The bit about the guy not telling them made me chuckle - he's a wheel clamper, probably on commission or the owner. You have to be a certain type of person to do the job - he's not going to tell them to move is he?

soon there will be no such thing as the high street / town centre...it will die and become obselete.

Then we will all start to blame scumbag clampers and wardens.

I dislike clamper's and their underhand methods as much as the next person, but the lady has a nerve to complain when free places were available within spitting distance.

I think you'll find that there are signs as you enter the private care park, saying that it is permit only. Each building in the court has 2 spaces which are part of the rent paid with the buildings and there is nothing more annoying than coming to work to park to find members of the public parking in the spaces. Like prevous comments the side of the road is free for 1 hour as is the Market patch of car park
