An adventurous hiker is planning to walk almost 200 miles in a week in memory of a school pal who died suddenly due to an undetected heart condition.
Dave Massey, 27, from Fulwood, Preston, will take part in the Coast to Coast walk stretching 190 miles from St Bees Head on the west coast to Robin Hood's Bay, near Whitby in East Yorkshire.
The walk was devised by Alfred Wainwright, the writer and hill-walker.
Usually, people take at least two weeks doing the walk – but Dave has set himself the challenge of completing it in just a week, walking the equivalent of a marathon each day.
Dave organised the event, which will begin on May 31, to help build awareness and raise funds for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
His friend Andrew Parr, from Preston, collapsed and died outside a nightclub at the age of 21 because of an undiagnosed heart condition.
Andrew, who went to Broughton High School with Dave, had complained of indigestion for a couple of weeks before his death.
He died in April 2004, just months before he was due to marry his fiancee Gemma Abinett.
Since Andrew's death his mum Ruth Lowe has set up the Andrew Parr Memorial Fund to raise money for young people being screened for heart problems.
She is also the North West co-ordinator for CRY and campaigns to raise awareness of Sudden Adult Death.
Dave said: "I was good friends with Andrew and his sudden death came as a huge shock."
