The annual crackdown on festive drink-drivers has begun.
Police across the county have warned they are stepping up the number of breath tests being carried out in the run-up to Christmas and the New Year.

Increased enforcement activity will be carried out across Lancashire throughout December.

Over the past 12 months 55 people have been killed on Lancashire's roads and 10 of those deaths were due to drink-driving.

Chief Insp Jon Donnelly, head of road policing for the county, said: "We have found that there is a direct link between the number of breath tests carried out and the number of deaths on the road attributable to drink-driving.

"Officers will use their powers to both catch offenders and also to send out a clear message that drink driving will not be tolerated.

"For me the message to motorists remains simple, do not drink and drive or you will be caught. Lancashire Constabulary will continue to take a firm approach on this issue and I'm sure the public of Lancashire would agree with me that every death on Lancashire's roads is one death too many."

One assumes nobody drink drives the other 11 months of the year then? Not condoning drink driving of course, but this is the usual "make an effort for PR purposes" rather than the tough line that should apply all year round.

What makes me laugh is i start work early in the morning and i have never seen any police pulling any cars over no matter what time of year it is let alone christmas so do they think that drink drivers only come out after 10am and stick to main roads rather than the out skirts of the city because i have seen a few drivers & worked with that would be lucky to pass any test they are offered so WAKE UP Chief Insp Jon Donnelly
