The Team – singer Freddie Davis, drummer Lex Dunn, DJ and sampler Ruggi Lorenzini and guitarist Nathan Standlee –– played twice at the festival last year too.

Then, they played The Queens Head Stage, scene of a show by Mercury winners Elbow, and festival organiser Emily Eavis's own area, the Park Stage.

This year, they returned to the Queens Head Stage, scene of their favourite show of last year, to kick off their Glastonbury 2009 with a Friday afternoon slot.

Although the tent, this year situated in the festival's market area, was virtually empty when they began playing, festival goers began drifting in when they heard the band launch into their first track, Defenders of the Universe.

Freddie introduced their last single, Room 44, by telling the crowd: "This is our first proper release, we're so proud!"

They then played their next single, Letting Go, the first song they ever wrote and the tune that started it all when MySpace bosses heard it and made the band their Featured Artists of The Week.

On Saturday, they played a noon slot in the ever popular Orange Chill n Charge Tent before closing on the Dirty Boots Stage on Sunday.

Interviewed backstage at the Orange Chill n Charge show, Freddie says: "We love Glastonbury! I grew up going to Leeds Festival but this is OUR festival now!"
