An extremist who threatened to dig up relatives of people connected to an animal research lab subjected her victims to "a prolonged campaign of hate", police said today.
Diane Jamieson, 60, of Lytham Road, Ashton, Preston, was given a suspended 51-week jail sentence at Preston Crown Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to six counts of interfering with contractual relationships so as to harm an animal research organisation.

The charges arose from threatening letters the former Law Society member and legal worker sent to a number of companies and individuals from 2002 onward.

In one she wrote: "You could find the consequences of your actions pretty grim – having the remains of your loved ones removed never to be seen again."

Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Robbins of Kent Police led the operation which captured Jamieson. He was pleased with the outcome.

He said: "This case featured a large number of victims whose families, as well as themselves, had been subjected to a prolonged campaign of hate and intimidation and who had nonetheless been prepared to give evidence in court.

"We are grateful that as a result of the guilty pleas entered by Diane Jamieson, the victims were spared the ordeal of giving that evidence at court."

The recipients had been identified by a group joined by Jamieson – Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC) – as having dealings with animal research companies.

Jamieson demanded that the recipients cease trading with them.
She was among 32 people arrested on May 1 2007 as part of Operation Achilles, a police operation targeting animal rights extremists.

Jamieson, who did not wish to comment to the LEP, is the second person sentenced from the probe.

The judge, Mr Justice Irwin, said Jamieson made "an arrogant assumption" she was in the right morally.

I agree, Jamieson should have been jailed. She is a terrorist!

I'm fully aware of the suffering animals endure for human benefit, but I feel it is a necessary evil.

HLS test on animals for research into drugs used against Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and cancer.

The Animal Rights Spoons will say that the testing is not necessary, and go on to claim it's just about profit. They do have a point there as pharmaceutical companies are tards when it comes to medicine pricing, but that's another argument.

But what gets me about these Spoons is that they put the welfare of animals before that of humans.

If they are really committed to saving animals then they should not even drive their vehicles for fear of splatting a midgey or two on their windscreen!

animal welfare is a top priority of mine and i can't stand cruelty in any way shape or form, i do think if you breed animals for experiments making money from their suffering then you leave yourself open to this sort of behaviour but would i do it no i would not i would find another way of showing my disgust at them because doing this is being as low as they are.

i don't eat meat etc i can feel strongly because i make it my duty to make animal welfare a top priority but animal rights doing this is wrong because it will just get people ignoring them and classing them all as nutters.

Eric you have got it all wrong. For a start it is not necessary and drugs have caused very serious side effects and fatalities from using animals as models for humans. That is a fact. Search it and find out the reality of vivisection.
Animals are simply very different from us and do not react the same. The publicised case of the six volunteers demonstrated this perfectly to name just one of many, many cases. Search Merckks, drug VIOXX and the lawsuits they have had to pay out. There is a lot more to it than you may be aware, Diane obviously knows all the facts on the subject and that is why she strongly opposes it. Some ex -vivisectors oppose it, doctors oppose it, esteemed knowledgable persons oppose it, they do so for a very good reason. You need to research it and well.
It has been said that "there is only one thing that worries the animal 'researchers' more than animal rights and that is another researcher who can expose the realities of vivisection". That could be why it has never been properly evaluated ~ did you know that it hadn't? why is that, do you think? why not prove its is a necessary evil....they cant, because it isn't.

Personally I do not regard testing on animals as research

It is in the interests of humans as well as animals to discontinue animal based research and it is in your benefit to conduct some thorough resarch of your own to be able to have an well informed view.

A region in Italy has recently banned vivisection for example, why do you think that is if it as as you say a 'necessary evil'? These are people that know. This country is supposed to be a leader but with this issue we are sadly behind.

Also, I have recently read that a researcher was fired this year because he would not falsify data at HLS. It doesnt surprise me.

Incidentally 'vital research' can be for washing up liquid, wash powder etc something that is not even reguired by law! HLS has been guilty of cruelty to animals i.e. punching puppies

This undercover footage was televised. The government were put in a postion where they revoked HLs's licence but only temporarily unfortunately.

If you search you can find legitmate documents that a judge ordered to be released to the public. See Uncaged Campaigns, Diaries of Despair.

Some workers at these facilites have even contacted animal organisations to reveal information to them. Its all online.

So it's all just a huge conspiracy to keep some people 'in the money'. Too big an industry to just stop on ethical grounds? Is that what you're saying?

AREs like Jamieson are simply bullies. They think that because they hold a particular view, that they can impose that view on the rest of society (by whatever means they like...grave robbing, blackmail, violence). True supporters of animal rights would attempt to address the issues at source. Closing down HLS will not stop experiments on animals...that needs changes to the law (it's like trying to stop the use of cars by closing down one garage). The AREs who blackmail companies who use HLS, are simply venting their frustration at having lost the moral argument (or, more accurately, at having failed to make the moral argument sufficiently strong, to win)...some are well meaning but lost...some are psychopaths who just like to hurt people. Sending Jamieson to prison would have sent the right message.

Hanging Jamieson would have been the right message to other AR's nutjobs, but that's not a lawful punishment in this country. I'm not suggesting anything here btw, but if anybody has a bit of old rope etc......Let me know!

Now, just in case she is reading, I'm going to kill a puppy for every week she got a suspended prison term for. I will cease to kill these puppies when she deliberately gets her self re-arrested and gets the suspension un-suspended!

Do the right thing for the animals Jamieson, go to prison!

Eric Cartman, Hello...... What do you think? Its a multi billion pound industry.

It's a massive industry and has government backing... but I have no doubt that it will eventually stop because brave people like Diane are exposing it for what it is and at their own personal cost.

Animal testing doesnt work for humans. Google thoroughly and see for yourself.

Where are all these cures we are promised? Where are all the fantastic breakthroughs that never seem to materialise?

Cures = less profit from medicines

The FDA tells us that 92% of drugs tested safe and effective in animals fail in huamn trials.

Did you know that the drug Vioxx killed more Americans than died in the Vietnam war?

Aspirin causes toxicity in animals.

Are you paying attention to any of these facts?

LIndylooloo,

Midlands 04/06/2008 01:58:53
Incidentally, Vioxx was deemed safe in eight studies using six animal species!

so after causing all that needless suffering to animals it still wasn't safe for humans!
