A massive telephone mast which would tower over trees and lamp posts could be set to become the sixth to go up in Preston.
Mobile phone giant O2 wants to put the 17.5 metre pole up on a grass verge at the junction of Tanterton Hall Road, Sylvancroft and Tag Lane, Ingol.
But local people and councillors are vowing to fight the application amid fears it will dwarf nearby houses and be a health risk.
A planning application was submitted by O2 to Preston Council last week and, if approved, could go up within months.
Mother-of-three Janet O'Neill, 34, of Sylvancroft, said she would be able to see the mast towering over her back fence.
She said: "I have spoken with people I know down in Cadley about the health risks and they have told me that there is no proof either way that they are dangerous or safe."
The application is expected to be decided by Town Hall planning officials under delegated powers in the next few months.
But, Coun Bill Shannon, who represents Ingol on the council, has said he will call-in the decision before the planning committee if it looks set to be given the go-ahead.
A spokesman for O2 was unavailable for comment.
