Urgent repairs are needed to a number of public buildings in Preston, Lancashire.
Council bosses are being forced to spend almost £500,000 shoring up buildings to prevent them becoming health and safety risks.
The work, to be carried out over the next 12 months, will see "temporary closure" or disruption at a number of public buildings.
Among those affected will be Fulwood and West View leisure centres, the cemetery and crematorium, Avenham multi-storey car park, and changing pavilions and toilets in parks.
The council has promised that disruption will be kept to an absolute minimum and customers will be given advance notice of any closures.
Without the work, it is feared the buildings would deteriorate further which would reduce their value and lifespan.
