Foul weather didn’t stop 500 runners turning out for the annual Garstang 10k on Sunday.

The event, which started over 20 years ago, was won by 26-year-old Ben Lindsay in a time of 30 minutes 49 seconds.

David Rigby came second with a time of 33 minutes six seconds, closely followed by Robert Affleck who came third with a time of 33 minutes 10 seconds.

Organiser Steve Ashcroft said: “It’s been a fantastic day, there’s been over 500 men and women competing, and they’ve come from far and wide.

“The winner rang up this morning asking if he could take part, and he’d travelled in from America.

“It seems to be getting more popular every year, but it’s a nice, fast, rural course.”

A 2km fun run was also held for around 30 children, around the Garstang High School area, but numbers were down on previous years.
