13,000 youngsters tested for sex diseases
Young people have poured into clinics in their thousands to get tested for chlamydia.
NHS Central Lancashire was given a Government target of testing 17% of sexually active people aged between 15 and 24 between April 2008 and March 2009.
But after a campaign to get people through the doors 13,844 people were tested, which equals 22.6% of the young population.
Carolyn Blythe, NHS Central Lancashire chlamydia screening programme co-ordinator, said: "To not only reach the target but exceed it is fantastic and down to the hard work of all our staff.
"This is an important programme, promoting healthy and safe relationships between young people, and encouraging young people to take responsibility for their sexual health."
