Memorial garden for community hero

A memorial garden has been opened in honour of a Leyland woman who dedicated her time to helping the community.
Residents of Wade Hall in Leyland have raised cash to plant a rose garden in memory of mum-of-11 Rose Quinn, who died suddenly, aged 75, while on holiday in Spain in September.
Youngsters involved with projects at the area's community centre, on Royal Avenue, planted the roses and unveiled the memorial plaque at a ceremony attended by some of Rose's family.
Her son, Darren, 39, who lives on Kingsway, Leyland, said the family was also using money raised from a collection held in memory of Rose to throw a Halloween party.
He said: "She would have wanted the money to go to the kids, but she would not have wanted any fuss, that was the kind of woman she was, she just wanted to help.
"When all her children grew up she started to feel a bit lonely, stuck at home on her own, then the grandchildren came along. She has 24 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
"She loved children and lived on Queensway, next door to the community centre, so she would always put her name forward."
Rose died of a blood clot on her lung on a visit to see her youngest child, Jamie, 38, at his home in Torremolinos in September.
Darren said the news came as "a massive shock" to her family and friends, who turned out for her funeral earlier this month.
Community centre volunteer Tony Crawford said: "Rose was involved over the years in all sorts of different activities in the community and was well known to many people on the estate.
"A number of residents made a collection to buy the rose bush and plaque for the small garden area at the back of the centre."
