Diamond Anniversary for Winifred & HaroldTheir eyes first met across a crowded dance hall.
Now Winifred Freda and Harold Smith have celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss with their Diamond Wedding anniversary.
The pair met in 1944 when they were just 16 at dance in the local hall at Longridge.
Winifred recalls how Harold was very shy as he excused her from someone else that she was dancing with.
Their romance blossomed over their three-year engagement, which overcame Winifred becoming ill and spending a considerable amount of time in hospital with TB.
They married at St Wilfrid's Church, Longridge, with a large ceremony.
Instead of asking for presents they asked for donations to the local lung foundation, Breathe Easy, and the congregation managed to raise £600 pounds for the fund that is still running today.
Even though Winifred ended up staying in hospital over the next few years, she managed to raise five children with her devoted husband.
They now have nine grandchildren.
Winifred said: "What keep a marriage strong is caring, tolerance and perseverance!"
The couple celebrated their anniversary on July 31.
