Tottenham Hotspur have closed in on Manchester City right-back Vedran Corluka, 22, for a fee of around £7million.
The Daily Mail claims that Spurs had shown interest in Corluka a year ago before the Croatia defender signed from Dinamo Zagreb.

He will team up with international colleague Luka Modric.

Meanwhile, Mexico coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has called up Argentinian-born striker Vicente Matias Vuoso for a three-day training camp.

Vuoso replaces Guadalajara forward Omar Arellano, who picked up an injury in the Mexican league at the weekend, as Eriksson prepares for the World Cup qualifiers later this month.

The 26-year-old, who had an unsuccessful spell at Manchester City between 2002 and 2003, has promised to repay Eriksson by helping the Tricolour reach the 2010 tournament.

He said: "I promise I will do my best. I will try to help Mexico make it to the World Cup without any problems.

"I want to pay back a little bit for everything this country has given to me."

Vouso has scored 79 of his 84 Mexican league goals at Santos Laguna, following a six-month stint at giants America in 2006.

On Sunday he missed a penalty which cost Santos victory as they went on to draw 1-1 with Pumas.

Vuoso is the second naturalised Mexican player in Eriksson's squad, as the Swede has also called up Brazilian-born midfielder Leandro Augusto Oldoniin.

The third stage of the qualifiers begins on August 20 against Honduras at the Estadio Azteca, with Jamaica and Canada the other teams in Group Two.

The three-day training camp does not include European-based players who will be called up for the Honduras match.

Squad: Sanchez (Santos), Ochoa (America), Corona (Tecos); Esparza, Magallon (both Guadalajara), Rojas (America), Lopez, Pinto (both Pachuca), Duenas (Toluca), Martinez (Morelia), Castillo (Santos); Perez (Monterrey), Pineda, Medina, Morales (all Guadalajara), Correa (Pachuca), Oldoni (Pumas), Arce, Torres (both Santos); Bautista (Jaguares), Landin (Morelia), Vuoso (Santos), Ochoa (Monterrey).
