Sir Alex Ferguson will offer crocked striker Louis Saha in part-exchange for Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz.
Fergie sees Santa Cruz as the striker who can offer him the target-man alternative to his array of attacking talent.
And United will throw in Frenchman Saha, whose injury problems have prevented him from making his mark at Old Trafford.
The 29-year-old will be the makeweight in a £10million transfer, the News of the World says.
There will be a bumper wages deal on offer for Santa Cruz.
The 26-year-old took a big drop in salary when he joined Rovers from Bayern Munich for £4million last summer.
