Sunderland boss Roy Keane has failed with a £4million bid for former Manchester United team-mate Darren Fletcher.
The Sunderland boss has made the midfielder one of his top targets — despite saying almost three years ago: "I can't understand why people in Scotland rave about Darren Fletcher."

Keane is considering going back with a £5m offer, though Alex Ferguson is keen to keep 24-year-old.

Keane told the News of the World: "You don't want to go overboard on your valuation of players. You have to be prepared to say 'that's a lot' and back away."
