Reading striker Kevin Doyle will complete a £7million move to Aston Villa in the New Year.
The Reading striker, 25, is wanted by boss Martin O'Neill to increase competition for places at Villa Park.
And hitman Marlon Harewood will be offered to the Royals as part-exchange in the deal.
O'Neill wants to add to his frontline as John Carew is injury prone, while Ashley Young and Gabby Agbonlahor are often used down the flanks.
The Republic of Ireland star scored 19 goals in two Premier League campaigns and has netted eight times this season.
