Morecambe FC will have a double makeover next season, with a new club logo and a new £12m stadium to be known as the Globe Arena.
The stadium announcement comes after the club secured a five-year sponsorship deal with Globe Construction, the company
responsible for building the new venue in the Westgate area of the town.
The new crest will feature as a centrepiece for the stadium as well as appearing on all the Shrimps kits next season.
Designed following consultation with fans, the crest features a large shrimp logo on a red shield – a striking, modern version of an emblem associated with the club since the 1960s.
More recently the Shrimps have adopted the traditional town coat of arms but since control of that lies quite rightly with the local authority, it is impossible for the football club to enforce copyright protection.
Chairman, Peter McGuigan, said: "The new crest makes a bold statement about the club as it moves into its next exciting era.
"Our nickname is The Shrimps and the Shrimp logo is something our fans have always really identified with. That came across loud and clear during our consultation with our supporters.
"The shrimp is an iconic Morecambe FC symbol which the new crest displays in a bold and modern way.
"We're sure our fans will be delighted with the new crest which will form a striking centrepiece at the Globe Arena."
The 6,000-capacity stadium includes a full-size, state-of-the-art, FA-standard artificial training pitch as well as other community facilities for five-a-side, netball and hockey.
The ground will include luxury function, banqueting and conference facilities in addition to a community building with high quality changing facilities and a fully-equipped gymnasium.
The Globe Arena will be ready for the start of the 2010/11 season in addition to hosting pre-season friendlies. McGuigan added: "It is an historic day for both Morecambe Football Club and Globe Construction and the beginning of what we believe will be a very successful
partnership between us.
"The new development, when completed, will offer not only a fantastic stadium worthy of our status as a Football League club but also act as a high-quality sporting and social venue for the local community.
"Additionally, we hope to attract the business community from both a local and national abse to our outstanding conference facilities.
"We are an ambitious club and the opening of the Globe Arena in July will give us the financial stability necessary to ensure the long-term well-being of Morecambe.
"We also acknowledge the ambitions of Globe Construction and together we look forward to a very successful future."
Globe Construction is a North West-based company with a string of successful major commercial, retail, industrial and leisure developments to its name.
Globe's design director, Kevin Hargreaves, said: "We are delighted to have formed such a close working relationship with Morecambe FC and this five-year sponsorship deal is proof of our wish to be aligned with the club and its aspirations and ethos for the long term."
