We take a look around the Football League for the latest transfer news. Including Norwich City, Birmingham City, Crystal Palace, Southampton, Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield Town, Reading and Sheffield United.
NORWICH have completed the signing of midfielder David Bell from LUTON for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old was outstanding for the troubled Hatters last season and ended the campaign on loan to Leicester.

He has signed a three-year deal at Carrow Road to end a long chase for manager Glenn Roeder.

"David is a player who we've been following for some time and we were impressed with his spell at Leicester," Roeder told the club's official website, www.canaries.co.uk.

"He will add quality to our midfield from wide areas and I am fully expecting David's career to now fulfil the potential he first showed at Rushden as a young player."

BIRMINGHAM boss Alex McLeish has played down the club's chances of signing FC Brussels midfielder Zola Matumona.

The Congo international has been on trial with Blues during the recent pre-season tour in Austria, but McLeish concedes obtaining a work permit for the 26-year-old appears unlikely.

"The one with Zola, that's unlikely now," McLeish told the Birmingham Mail. "The work permit is going to be difficult.

"It's a shame because he would have been a skilful addition to the squad."

CRYSTAL PALACE have completed the permanent signing of on-loan defender Jose Fonte from Benfica for an undisclosed fee, while also snapping up striker Simon Thomas from Ryman Premier League outfit Boreham Wood.

SOUTHAMPTON coach Jan Poortvliet will hold emergency talks with Jhon Viafara in an attempt to resolve the midfielder's future.

The Colombian international reported back late to pre-season and was substituted less than half an hour into a 3-2 win at Weymouth last night.

"I will be sitting down with Jhon because things like that you cannot let it go," he told the club's official website, www.saintsfc.co.uk. "I want to know the problems, because then we can make a decision."

NOTTINGHAM FOREST have signed teenage striker Mickael Darnet, 18, from AS Cannes, while rivals DERBY will learn on August 5 how much they will have to pay TRANMERE for winger Steve Davies.

IPSWICH manager Jim Magilton has confirmed he has opened contract talks with defender Ben Thatcher, who has been on trial since his release by CHARLTON, while DONCASTER boss Sean O'Driscoll is hoping to tie up a deal for Manchester City defender Matt Mills.

MK DONS manager Roberto Di Matteo has made Austrian winger Florian Sturm his first signing.

The 26-year-old has signed a two-year contract at stadium:mk after being released by Swiss super league side FC Vaduz.

HUDDERSFIELD have signed former BLACKPOOL midfielder Michael Flynn, 27, on a two-year deal, but CREWE have been dealt a major injury blow after midfielder Jake Livermore, on loan from Spurs, was ruled out for three months having suffered a fractured fibula in a 0-0 draw at Wrexham.

ALDERSHOT boss Gary Waddock has completed the loan signings of READING midfielder Scott Davies and SHEFFIELD UNITED defender Ben Starosta.

Davies, 21, was with the Shots last season and, after scoring on the opening day of the season at Kidderminster, went on to score 10 goals in 29 league appearances.

He has signed a season-long deal at the EBB stadium while Starosta has joined on a one-month loan deal with a view to securing a permanent deal.

Starosta has represented Poland at youth level and enjoyed League Two action last season while on loan with Brentford and Bradford.

ROTHERHAM have completed the signing of teenage striker Reuben Reid, a free agent after leaving BRENTFORD earlier this summer, but the Millers have decided not to offer a deal to trialist striker Drewe Broughton.

Lewis Hunt has become WYCOMBE's sixth signing of the summer following his release from SOUTHEND.

The 25-year-old, a key figure in the Shrimpers' climb from League Two to the Championship in recent seasons, joins the Blues on a two-year contract.
