e meltdown in the world's financial markets impacts upon American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks.

DAILY STAR: Real Madrid are sensationally poised to pull the plug on Robinho's £28million move to Chelsea. Also: Sir Alex Ferguson last night admitted he fears he will not sign Dimitar Berbatov...Martin O'Neill will turn his attention to his signing of Newcastle's James Milner after Aston Villa booked their place in the UEFA Cup first round proper.

THE INDEPENDENT: Alan Curbishley is under increasing pressure at West Ham United, with the Croatia coach, Slaven Bilic, understood to be interested in succeeding him at Upton Park should he be sacked. Also: Fabio Capello is understood to be so disillusioned with his treatment by Sir Alex Ferguson over the availability of Owen Hargreaves, he is considering calling the midfielder up to verify his fitness independently.

THE SUN: England boss Fabio Capello is reeling after two stunning blows from Rafa Benitez and Alex Ferguson. Liverpool chief Benitez insisted Kop captain Steven Gerrard has to have a groin operation immediately and Fergie claimed Owen Hargreaves is not fit enough for England duty either. Also: Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was last night promised £30million for reinforcements.

DAILY MAIL: Fabio Capello was left fuming last night after Rafa Benitez and Sir Alex Ferguson took steps which could seriously undermine England's chances of qualifying for the next World Cup. Also: Joe Hart saved Manchester City from a humiliating UEFA Cup exit yesterday as they scraped past Danish minnows Midtjylland on penalties.

THE GUARDIAN: UEFA's president, Michel Platini, has warned Roma that the Champions League final may be taken away from their stadium if there is any serious violence when they host Chelsea in their group match.

THE TIMES: The troubled regime of Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr at Liverpool suffered another blow last night when it emerged they are preparing to postpone construction of the club's new stadium because of difficulties raising the funds in an unforgiving financial market.

DAILY TELEGRAPH: Real Madrid last night put Robinho's proposed move to Chelsea in doubt by unexpectedly expressing their determination to keep the Brazilian forward at the Bernabeu.
