The author of a controversial report which suggested residents should abandon northern cities and move south is to take part in a debate about the city's future.
Dr Tim Leunig, whose Cities Unlimited report was met with anger across the north, will give his views alongside Professor David Robertson, director of Liverpool John Moores University's institute for public policy research.
After the report's publication last month, Prof Robertson called on Dr Leunig to visit Liverpool and be proved wrong, but he said he felt unable to attend because he feared for his safety.
Liverpool City Council said the debate will be held at Liverpool Cathedral on October 16 at 8pm.
Dr Leunig, a lecturer in economic history at the London School of Economics, and Prof Robertson will each be given 15 minutes to offer their views on the future of Liverpool before a panel will direct questions at the two speakers.
The report, published by think-tank Policy Exchange said northern cities, such as Liverpool, were "beyond revival".
