Council leaders have hit out at Liverpool Football Club's owners for their bid to register the Liver bird as a trademark.
The Anfield club has applied to the UK Intellectual Property Office to trademark the iconic image for the sum of £450.

The club hopes the move will put an end to counterfeit Liverpool merchandise bearing the Liver bird emblem.

The application has not been welcomed by Liverpool City Council which last week accused the club of attempting to "steal" the city's crest.
