The wife of Blackburn Rovers footballer Zurab Khizanishvili confronted burglars at their home, police said today.
The 27-year-old from Georgia has become the latest Premiership star to be targeted by thieves while he was taking part in a game.

The house, in Worsley, Greater Manchester, was attacked on Wednesday night as Rovers took on Sunderland in the Carlin
g Cup.

The burglars tried to gain entry into the property by smashing a window in the back door.

They were confronted by the footballer's wife, who has not been named, and fled the scene.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "On Thursday morning we were informed of an attempted burglary at an address in Worsley, Salford.

"The offenders threw a brick at the back door and shattered the glass.
"They were disturbed by the occupant of the house, who was inside with her two children, and the offenders fled.

"Nobody was injured and inquiries are continuing."

Liverpool FC's Lucas Leiva became the club's ninth burglary victim on November 4 when his Olympic medal and other memorabilia were stolen during a game against Atletico Madrid.

Three people were today appearing in court charged in connection with that incident.
