A congestion charge is "crucial" now the Government is going ahead with a national road pricing trial, according to a pressure group supporting a 'yes' vote in the city's referendum.
The Yes Campaign, which is backing the £3bn bid for a £5 daily road charge in exchange for improvements in public transport, claims alternative road schemes will not get the same investment from the Government.
Transport Minister Paul Clark this week announced that national road pricing trials would begin in early 2009.
Voting packs go out at the end of this month.
