Allan and Kate surprise guests by saying ‘shall we have a wedding?’
Most of Allan and Kate’s guests didn’t know they were going to a wedding - until they got there!
The couple, who are director of photography and managing director of Marmalade Corporate Media respectively, met when they were on a wedding shoot in Spain in 2007.
Allan said: “I had a company called Hot Coffee Photography and when someone told me this gorgeous woman owned a company called Marmalade Toast I thought they were winding me up!”
After a long drive, an exhausting shoot and a run in with a giant rat, Allan came to the rescue when Kate and her colleague loked themselves out of their apartment.
“We became great friends and started working together and that friendship became a solid foundation for falling very deeply in love.”
At Christmas last year Allan hid 10 fashion rings on their tree, buying one in particular from Goldsmiths for £10.
He said: “It looked a bit like your traditional solitaire so I hid it right at the back and it took Kate ages to find it.”
When Kate did find the ring, attached was a note that said, ‘Marry Me?’
“It was all done with lots of fun and laughs as we are not a traditional couple by any stretch of the imagination,” says Allan.
“We then decided to pick a date that was just under three and a half months away because we don’t like to put ourselves under any pressure and wanted to have plenty of time to plan and prepare!”
The couple decided to tie in their wedding with Marmalade Toast’s seventh birthday - 4/4/14.
“We thought why not keep everyone believing it’s just a birthday party and spring a suprise wedding on them,” say the newlyweds.
In just two months the pair organised everything and on April 4, the big surprise was revealed in the Great Room at Preston North End’s Deepdale ground.
Allan said: “We had about 100 guests arrive for the party promptly at 7pm and kept Kate hidden away in a separate room with a ‘wardrobe malfunction’ then I began to gather everyone on the dance floor.”
Creating an aisle between their gathered guests, Kate then appeared dancing through them all to a mix of the wedding march and Pharrell’s ‘Happy’.
People were still a bit unsure as to what was happening until Allan was passed the mic and announced “Let’s have a wedding!”
As the gathered guests realised what was happening, cheers erupted, as well as a few tears.
After a short ceremony, canapes of fish and chips, roast beef and yorkshire pudding were served, the cake was cut and dancing continued.
“I think we managed to pull off the surprise of the year,” says Allan, “It was fantastic.”
