Liam Nuttall took a hint from Lindsey Davidson’s favourite film to prove his Love, Actually.
The couple, who live in Fulwood, Preston, met in 2010, at the former Manyana’s nightclub.
Lindsey, a software engineer originally from Cumbria, says: “I was being chatted up at the bar and asked Liam, who was standing at the other side of me to pretend to be my boyfriend so I could get rid of the other guy.”
Eventually the unrequited suitor took the hint and Liam, a management accountant from Preston, and Lindsey were left alone and chatted before swapping numbers and getting together.
Two years later, on Christmas Eve, Lindsey was vaccuming downstairs when Liam shouted her to come upstairs.
“I love Christmas films and Liam had replicated one of the scenes from one of my favourites, Love, Actually.
“He stood there with a series of card with writing on them and when he got down to the last one it suddenly dawned on me what was happening and that he was proposing.”
The couple were married at St Clare’s Church, Fulwood, before a reception at the Marriott Hotel.
Instead of wedding favours, the newlyweds made a donation to the Baby Beat Appeal and they were joined by their own baby, Joshua, for their first dance.
Lindsey says, “We wanted a nice mix of modern and traditional throughout the day and the theme reflected ‘us’ and everything we liked.
“Even the cake topper featured Liam in a football kit, me in a netball kit and Joshua chasing the football and netball.”
