Tribute night to departed Jacko

MORECAMBE'S top music promoter is planning a 'Thriller' of a night to pay tribute to Michael Jackson.

Steve Middlesbrough hopes to soon put on an evening of music from 'The King of Pop' - possibly featuring a Michael Jackson tribute act - somewhere in the Morecambe area.

Jacko fan Steve said he was really upset by the sudden death of the legend on Thursday and wanted to do something to pay his respects.

"Michael Jackson produced hits for 40 years – that's four times longer than The Beatles," said Steve.

"He was the biggest icon of our times.

"I went to see him live twice, once with The Jacksons at Preston Guild Hall in 1978 and then on the 'Bad' tour at Roundhay Park, Leeds in 1988.

"That was the best show I've ever seen in my life – an amazing night."

Steve, who is currently in the midst of promoting a series of music festivals across the district (including Morecambe Jazz this coming weekend, see page 21), hopes to finalise plans for his Michael Jackson night very soon.

If you would like to help in any way, please call Steve on 01524 424303.

Lancaster's Stonewell Tavern is also holding a 'Michael Jackson Farewell Disco' on Saturday, July 11. Jacko fancy dress welcome!
