Smokers give smoking ban law the thumbs up
Health chiefs have revealed the smoking ban in pubs and workplaces is now so popular in Lancashire that even smokers think it is a good idea
As the smoking ban legislation marks its third anniversary, bosses at NHS Central Lancashire claim a survey of north west residents has revealed 80% of people in Lancashire support the 2007 law in which smoking was banned in shops, offices, pubs, factories, restaurants, membership clubs and work vehicles.
To add to this, 66% of smokers also back the law which is significantly more than the national average.
Maggi Morris, NHS Central Lancashire’s director of public health, said: ”Smoking remains the single biggest preventable cause of early death. It kills more people than alcohol, drugs, obesity, illegal drugs and road accidents combined.
“The research commissioned by Smokefree North West to mark the third anniversary of the smoking ban on July 1 shows that not smoking in public places has now become culturally acceptable and ‘the norm’.”
