Sing-a-long in Preston

The Greatest Kids' Sing-a-long Ever, Charter Theatre, Preston

IF you're going to bill yourself as 'The Greatest' anything, you'd better be pretty confident you can deliver.

So it was a good job the producer of The Greatest Kids' Sing-a-Long Ever was able to assemble such a strong cast for the show at Preston's Charter Theatre last week.

Chris Haylett clearly knows his way around the stage musical world, bringing together a list of vocal performers each of whom clearly could (many of them have) take leading roles in their own right.

Add some great costumes, a pretty decent band and ambitious stage effects - including a magic carpet scene that had my youngsters spellbound - and you have a cracking show.

Favourite songs were selected from such hits as Joseph, Grease, Oliver, Hairspray, Chitty, Chitty Bang Bang and various Disney Classics.

The rousing finale was a lively mix from High School Musical which - though my girls have watched them all - I'm not familiar with.

But, judging by the enthusiastic whooping, singing and dancing in the audience (and that was just from the mums!) I was on my own in that respect.

I can't judge if it's the Greatest - it's the only kids sing-a-long show I've been to - but it would take some beating.

Catch it if it comes again, great fun.
