Traditional terraces adorn area of Plungy

Located just a short distance from Preston city centre is the busy area of Plungington.

It predominately consists of rows of terraced houses many dating from Victorian times, but also features a number of schools and an active church.

At the heart of the community is Plungington Road, a busy shopping street which boasts estate agents, hairdressers, charity and convenience/grocery shops, a number of takeaways and a handful of pubs.

This busy street is one of the main routes into Preston city centre, and the ever expanding campus of the University of Central Lancashire.

Plungington’s proximity to UCLan has meant the area is popular with students looking for digs.

Emmanuel Church, which stands behind Plungington Road has a community centre, where a variety of events are held and an active community meets regularly.

The name Plungington could hail from the area’s undulating nature but could be eponymous as many of the local streets are people’s names.

Locals nickname the area Plungy.
