Up to 150 youngsters are expected to take part in a mass ‘sleep out’ in Preston on Saturday.
A total of 3,000 young people are expected to participate across the UK. The location of the Preston event is being kept a secret until after it has taken place.
But it will see young people sleeping out from 8pm to 7am.
The event is being organised to launch The Challenge Society, a year round programme that attempts to get young people involved community action.
The young people taking part are graduates of The Challenge, a youth and community programme that seeks to inspire young people to help better their communities. The Challenge is part of the Government’s flagship scheme, National Citizen Service (NCS).
This year up to 30,000 16 and 17-year-olds are expected to complete NCS, a third of those through The Challenge programme. ‘The Big Sleep Out’ is open to NCS graduates and their friends.
