‘No alcohol’ at new takeaway

The former JJs Lounge Bar in Moor Lane, Preston, will become a takeaway

The former JJs Lounge Bar in Moor Lane, Preston, will become a takeaway

A restaurant due to open in a former pub will not serve alcohol, bosses behind the plan have confirmed.

JJ’s Lounge Bar in Moor Lane, Preston, had been the subject of police interventions after a series of incidents at the student-orientated pub, including a customer being glassed in the head.

But new tenants have taken over the former pub and are currently working to convert it into a takeaway and eaterie.

A licensing review had been due to take place at Town Hall yesterday but was adjourned after licence holder Strettles announced its intentions to surrender the licence.

Mike Thorpe, licensing manager at Preston Council said: “This was an application to review the licence but, once again, was adjourned by the council following action by the licence holder Strettles to surrender the premises licence.

“It is believed that the premises will be operated as a takeaway but will not be operating after 11pm and so will not need a licence.”

The hearing was adjourned for 30 days which is the amount of time the company has to apply for it to be reinstated, before it has legally lapsed.

He added: “There is a technicality that there is a period which allows the reinstatement of the licence by interested parties, so the council has adjourned it until after that time period.”

Ismail Rawat, from Aamir Design Limited, which is the agent for the project handling planning issues, said: “Really, it is going to be an eaterie but it won’t be a licensed one, so we will allow it to lapse.

“There will be a range of food.

“They will try to cater for the market there, with the university.

“They are working on it at the moment.”
