Making light weight of diets
Mother and daughter Linda Atkinson and Emma Maxwell, from Lancaster, shed a total of 6st 3lb and Kirsty Burke, from Morecambe, lost 8st 6lb.
If you’re thinking it’s time to shed those festive pounds, look no further than these three super slimmers for inspiration.
Mother and daughter Linda Atkinson and Emma Maxwell, from Lancaster, shed a total of 6st 3lb between them and Kirsty Burke, from Morecambe, lost 8st 6lb.
The pair have been awarded Rosemary Conley Diet and Fitness Magazine Regional Slimmer of the Year 2012 Awards.
Kirsty, 35, used to weigh 19st 7lb and was a dress size 26/28.
The mother-of-two, now 11st 1lb and a size 12, joined the Rosemary Conley class in January 2007 after a friend managed to lose two stone in less than three months.
She said: “I thought if she could do it, then I could too.”
Kirsty had been overweight for as long as she could remember and struggled to get pregnant with her second child.
She said: “I’ve previously tried everything under the sun.
“I was one step away from having IVF but they wouldn’t do it because of my size. However, I was put on medication and I fell pregnant.
“I didn’t want to be that fat mum in the playground.”
Emma Maxwell decided to join a class after giving birth to her four children, aged two, three, four and six, in quick succession.
Her mum Linda Atkinson joined for moral support and the pair, who are child minders, haven’t looked back.
Emma, 33, who was 12st 3lb and a size 18, said: “Before I had the children I was a size 12.
“As I had them fairly close together, I didn’t lose any weight in between.
“Before I lost weight they couldn’t understand why I didn’t join in with family activities and I was worried they would be bullied because of me.”
After following a healthy eating plan and taking part in Zumba and aerobics classes, she now weighs 8st 12lb and is a size 10.
Emma, of Abraham Heights, said: “It was quite hard work at first.
“But once I got going, it was fairly easy to follow. It was great fun. I feel a lot more healthy.”
Mum Linda, 54, used to weigh 11st 11lb and wore a dress size 16/18.
She now weighs 9st 9lb, is a size 10/12 and said: “I had put on weight for the past 15 years but, as I had done so slowly, nobody noticed but as my dress sizes increased I felt a little lower and I had no confidence in myself.
“I had no self esteem and never wanted to go out. I got to my goal in 10 months, which was two and a half stone.
“I feel fantastic.”
They were presented with their awards at a ceremony at Quorn House, Leicestershire, with 17 other slimmers who lost a combined 140 stone.
