Top Lancashire eateries named in pay offence list

Portofino at Lytham and The Freemasons Arms at Wiswell are included in the Government’s list of businesses that underpaid workers.

As well as paying back staff the money owed, employers on the list have been fined a record £1.9 million by the government.

Retail, hairdressing and hospitality businesses were among the most prolific offenders.

Business Minister Margot James said: “It is against the law to pay workers less than legal minimum wage rates, short-changing ordinary working people and undercutting honest employers.”

Nationally, the worst offender was ​Argos Limited, ​which failed to pay £1,461,881.78 to 12,176 workers

Lancashire-based employers include: Mr Anthony Kenvig trading as Kenvig’s Hair Marriott, Preston PR3, who failed to pay £9,698.04 to two workers;

Edmondsons (Freightliners) Ltd, Lancaster LA3, who failed to pay £3,250.07 to 28 workers;

In-Portofino Ltd trading as Portofino, Fylde FY8, who failed to pay £1,976.15 to six workers;

SS Pubco Ltd trading as The Freemasons Arms, Ribble Valley BB7, who failed to pay £1,166.85 to two workers;

Contract Joinery (Lancashire) Ltd, Wyre FY6, who failed to pay £132.02 to one worker;

Banny’s Limited, of Pendle BB8, failed to pay £2,418.48 to 47 workers.

A spokesman for Kenvig’s Hair Marriott in Preston said the business was now under new ownership.

No-one was available for comment at the other named businesses.

The latest list is the 12th in the Government’s “name and shame” policy.
